8. Monty Brown
In the early days of TNA, many top stars were either WWE castoffs or Jeff Jarrett's old buddies from WCW. One clear exception to this was 'The Alpha Male' Monty Brown.
A former NFL player who had made it to the SuperBowl, Brown exploded onto the wrestling scene in 2004. His impressive physique, fiery in-ring style and charismatic promos instantly struck a chord with fans. Many believed it was only a matter of time before he was made World Champion, but for some reason that never happened.
After 2 years of trying his luck under the Jarrett regime, Brown decided to switch sides to WWE's bespoke version of ECW. Under his implausible new name of Marcus Cor Von, he competed in WWE's bastardised version of the Philadelphia promotion and even landed a match at WrestleMania 23 as part of the 'New Breed'.
Everything about Brown should have made him a huge star in WWE. Instead, he was relegated to a brand nobody cared about, given a stupid name, and sacrificed at the altar of older stars. The once-promising powerhouse abruptly retired from wrestling in 2007, aged just 37 years old.
