5. Davey Boy Smith

For Davey Boy Smith, the events of WCW Fall Brawl 1998 played a tragic part in the British Bulldog's unfortunate downfall.

There, Smith and Jim Neidhart opened the PPV by toppling the Dancing Fools tandem of Disco Inferno and Alex Wright. Closing out the show, it was Team WCW vs. nWo Hollywood vs. nWo Wolfpac. As part of that main event, a trapdoor had been rigged in the centre of one of the rings as part of Warrior's elaborate entrance.

Sadly, nobody had told Davey Boy - or the majority of the WCW roster, for that point - about the hidden door, and so the Bulldog had a painful surprise when he hit the mat after taking a back body drop from Wright. It's an utterly brutal bump to watch back, and that's because the one-time Intercontinental Champion landed on the aforementioned trapdoor.

This would result in back issues which put Smith on the shelf for several months, with him becoming addicted to pain medication in order to deal with his discomfort. Making matters worse, WCW would also fire the powerhouse while he was out injured.
