It seems an inevitability that Dolph Ziggler will one day soon walk out of WWE in a blaze of pent-up frustration, so poorly has his character been treated by the company's creative team over recent years.

And that makes us sad, because there was a moment - however brief - when it really seemed like the Showoff was set for super-stardom. As a show of their faith in the artist formerly known as Nicky, Ziggler was twice given the opportunity to hold the World Heavyweight Championship (although both reigns were disappointingly abbreviated).

Last year's Intercontinental title debacle - where Ziggler's ostensibly career-defining win meant for nothing when he lost the belt back a few weeks later - seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of his once-promising WWE career.

But we could be wrong.
