1994's King Of The Ring show marked the first time that Vince McMahon wasn't present at a WWF pay-per-view. At home recovering from neck surgery and having to deal with intense scrutiny from the US feds during the steroid trial, Vince sat this one out. That put more strain on Bruce Prichard, Kevin Dunn and other trusted figures.

The whole situation was a mess.

On his 'Something To Wrestle With' show, Prichard responded to questions from co-host Conrad Thompson about why the show started with some production snafus; the lighting was messed up, and things didn't run as smoothly as usual. Bruce said he, Dunn and others were spread so thin that they struggled.

Roddy Piper also wasn't totally satisfied with the creative for his match with Jerry Lawler, and he wanted to talk with Bruce all night. Compound that with Vince calling every two minutes (meaning Prichard had to run back and forth to the office phone from Gorilla), and it was a hectic night.
