10 Wrestling Matches That Were Sent Out To Die
3. DDP Vs. Goldberg (WCW Halloween Havoc 1998)
WCW's left hand rarely coordinated with the right.
Before Halloween Havoc 1998, the company decided to extend the show's running time without telling pay-per-view providers like Direct TV. Come crunch time then, the pay-per-view went dark at the pre-agreed moment, and WCW were left scrambling together an apology to fans who missed the Goldberg vs. DDP main event.
Surely someone should've identified this in advance? It wouldn't have taken a genius to pipe up and ask if pay-per-view outlets knew Havoc '98 was going to last 362 hours. Instead, like usual, WCW top brass palmed off logic and ploughed ahead with one of the biggest cards of the year. They sent Goldberg and DDP out with mere minutes of TV time remaining like a bunch of idiots.
Countless fans demanded refunds, and millions (who didn't buy the event) were gifted its headliner for free the next night on Nitro. The whole thing was a joke, one worsened by the fact Page vs. Goldberg was actually pretty damn good.
