10 Wrestling Movies That Should Be Made

5. Dramatising The Screwjob

The Montreal Screwjob is the single most infamous moment in wrestling history. Stories this rich and complex are made for the big screen, and while it has already been covered in the Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows documentary, its twisted plot would make a great dramatisation rife with shades of grey.

The Screwjob effectively served as the catalyst for WWE’s most successful period, the Attitude Era, and stands not only as a great example of Vince McMahon surviving a scandal, but twisting it to his benefit. It birthed Mr. McMahon, spawned decades’ worth of debate, and while the subject has been done to death by WWE themselves, it’s tangled web of treachery and politics deserves an in-depth portrayal.

True objectivity would be difficult, as the project would obviously require consent from those involved to get the go ahead. The Screwjob took place 20 years ago, however, and the parties have long since buried the hatchet. Exploring the full breadth of the bitter Hitman/HBK feud, and culminating with Vince’s famous “Bret screwed Bret” speech, it’d be a long journey full of turns and diversion, but laced with intrigue, as there’s still debate on whether the debacle was a work or not.
