3. Tutoring Kate Nash Before GLOW
On the topic of women’s wrestling, let’s talk about the Netflix series GLOW for a moment, more specifically Kate Nash. Is it true that you were basically her wrestling guru when it came to learning all things wrestling, in terms of the history of the business? And how is it that her transition into that role came about?
"Well she just kind of said ‘oh, I’m going to audition for this’, and I was like 'okay, this is interesting'. She’s done a lot of acting and things before doing GLOW, and I don’t know if they went to her, I don’t know how it happened, really.
Kate’s good ‘cause she throws herself into something so hard, and it’s amazing, that dedication. So I kind of knew she’d do that with wrestling, and I was just like 'look, you’re going to train with Chavo, you’re so lucky... Awesome Kong, you’re surrounded by some of the best, and you’re training at the Lucha Underground [studio]'. And I think what’s great about that show is that the wrestling is pretty amazing, when you think about it. It’s not body-doubled and stunted, they’ve learned.
I’m just telling her she needs to jump the rail and get in the ring ready for WrestleMania! GLOW vs Total Divas, I would watch her pummel them and love it!
But yeah, every so often she’ll send me some clips of them working moves out and stuff. I think any wrestling fan would love it, and all I said to her was 'look, so many people would love [this]… this is their dream, just respect that and you’ll smash it', and she has."
