10 WWE Dream Matches That Happened On The Indies
1. CM Punk vs. Eddie Guerrero
Of all the matches on this list, this one feels the most like it was plucked from the code of a WWE 2K game. Eddie Guerrero's tragic death in 2005 meant that he missed out on wrestling so many dream matches. Luckily for us, we have his short indie run from the early 2000s.
After he was released from WWE following a DUI, Guerrero embarked on a world tour. He fought a wide range of current stars and future legends, but it's his stint in IWA Mid-South that is of interest here.
On March 1st 2002, Guerrero won a triple threat for the promotion's heavyweight title. His opponents were his old pal Rey Mysterio and the defending champion; a man by the name of CM Punk. One day later, Punk got his one-on-one rematch for the title, ending Latino Heat's reign after just one day.
Guerrero vs. Punk is one of those beautiful crossover moments in wrestling history. Had Eddie lived a longer life, he and Punk could have been storied rivals. It's a travesty that we never saw this match in WWE, but at least got it once.
