10 WWE Face Turns That Ultimately Failed

9. Carlito Was Ready To Take The Next Step€Until He Didn€™t Feel Like It Anymore - 2006

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FStT_VIdW0c In 2006, Carlito had already amassed a fairly impressive WWE career. On his debut night in late 2004, he defeated John Cena for the United States Championship. About a half year later, he was drafted to Raw and won the Intercontinental Title on his first night as well. He began 2006 in the main event of the New Year€™s Revolution Pay Per View in the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship. After a partnership with Chris Masters dissolved, Carlito was ready to turn babyface. He had the crowd behind him, as his character was quirky and interesting. The apex of his turn happened at Unforgiven 2006, where he had a high-profile match with Randy Orton. Afterwards, because of either a real or imagined idea that there was a glass ceiling he€™d never break through, Carlito just stopped trying. It was obvious he was going through the motions in the ring. Even an on-screen partnership with Ric Flair couldn€™t help. WWE made Carlito€™s laziness into an on-screen storyline when he left Raw before the show had even ended, leading to Ric Flair riling him up. At that point, the crowd had stopped caring as well, and Carlito was turned back heel. He continued to go through the motions until his WWE contract ran out.
