10 WWE Gimmick Matches That Totally Sucked

Overly complex, underachieving and extremely boring...

The horrifically boring, slow and plodding Asylum match between Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules shined a light on just how easy it is for a gimmick match to suck, no matter how extraordinarily talented the men or women involved may be.

The Lunatic Fringe and Y2J's inability to overcome the stipulations of their match hurt it and simultaneously halted the momentum earlier bouts had built for the broadcast.

WWE history is littered with matches that may have been solid ideas on paper but, in execution, proved problematic or just plain awful. Some are notorious in their atrocity, pillars of WrestleCrap. Others are misguided attempts by the company to be clever, missteps that have never been repeated.

Whatever the case may be, they are gimmick matches that royally sucked. They will one day be joined by Jericho and Ambrose's anti-classic but for now, they stand on their own, black marks on WWE history.

10. Punjabi Prison Match

The Punjabi Prison match was a gimmick bout designed specifically for the massive Great Khali. Debuting in 2006, it was an enormous structure made of bamboo. With intricate doors and a rope for swinging, it looked like something out of a D-level Indiana Jones ripoff. By the time it was to debut at the Great American Bash, Khali was suspended, rendering the entire bout meaningless.

Vince McMahon has never been one to let logic or storyline continuity get in the way of...whatever it was the Punjabi Prison was supposed to be. The Undertaker, originally slated to battle Khali in the monstrosity of a match, instead squared off with ECW champion Big Show in a horrifically bad match that had fans hoping they would never see the contrived gimmick bout again.

Unfortunately, that would not be the case. Just over one year later, the match would make a comeback as Great Khali challenged Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship. While that match was a significant improvement, thanks in large part to The Animal's triumphant performance, it was still a chore to watch. Thankfully, the gimmick bout would be put out to pasture, where it lives today with the other nine on this list.
