10 WWE Superstars You Didn't Know Were In CHIKARA

4. Marty Jannety

Fans of CHIKARA will know "The Winged Ring Warrior" Icarus as one of the most detestable, despicable rudos in wrestling but towards the end of Season 12 everything was changing for Icarus. His team, the once great FIST, had fallen apart largely thanks to Icarus' growing friendship with Sugar Dunkerton. When Icarus was granted a shot at CHIKARA Grand Champion, Eddie Kingston, he looked to his childhood hero for support. Jannetty had done a good number of guest spots in CHIKARA, including competing for their tag titles, but his presence was most felt when he wasn't there at all. Icarus looked to Jannetty's upset Intercontinental Championship win in 1993 for inspiration, and invited his hero to the event. Come the big match, Icarus showed up in gear inspired by The Rockers' multi-coloured outfits (and more importantly, it covered up his hideous back tattoo, signalling a technico turn) but the chair reserved for Jannetty was still empty. Icarus fought a hard fight against Eddie Kingston, and even suffered shots from that same chair meant for his hero. While Icarus wouldn't win the championship that night, it was a night that would inspire him to embrace being a good guy, and a year later he'd win the gold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4y3HYeStRE
