10 WWE Wrestlers Too Good For Their Current Role

7. Drew Gulak

Drew Gulak emerged in WWE as one of many burgeoning Cruiserweights who was told to just go out there and wrestle, without any story or heat to work with, in the aftermath of 2016’s amazing Cruiserweight Classic tournament.

Gulak had an impressive career on the Indies to his résumé, in his case a decade long tenure in EVOLVE, honing his craft as a technical marvel in between the ropes. He just needed the exposure WWE could provide to breakout and become a household name.

Truth be told, Gulak has fared much better in this respect compared to a lot of his CWC colleagues, gaining far more sustained TV time rather than the likes of Ariya Daivari, Tony Nese and Brian Kendrick. However, every time Gulak has threatened to go to the next level on the back of either sublime ring work, or a charismatic gimmick such as his ‘No Fly Zone’ schtick in 205 Live’s early days, his prospects are dashed by uninspired creative decisions.

He is just now recovering from a 2020 of two halves, with the first highlighted by sensational wrestling contests against AJ Styles and frenemy Daniel Bryan, but the second ruined by his addition to the unfunny 24/7 Title wasteland.

The more WWE trusts Gulak as a wrestler rather than a comedy character, the better, because he is capable of so much more.
