10 WWE Wrestlers Who Got Over Against ALL Odds
8. The Hurricane
It's easy to describe wrestlers as real-life superheroes. Despite that, the idea of taking one and turning them into an actual superhero is about as goofy as making someone an evil builder. As such, this character really shouldn't have worked. Still, not only did it work, it became iconic.
The Hurricane was a gimmick performed by the wickedly talented Gregory Shane Helms during the later years of The Attitude Era and the beginning of The Ruthless Aggression Era. It was just as silly as it sounds, with Helms dressing in a bright green costume and walking about like he had superpowers, even though he didn't.
Again, this should have been rejected outright, but there was something so strangely lovable about The Hurricane. Helms, a big comic-book fan, poured everything he had into the gimmick, having plenty of fun, putting on some enjoyable matches, and doing plenty with the character. This led to him getting over with fans in a way many others would have failed at (looking at you, Nikki Cross).
To this day, he's considered one of the best comedy characters in wrestling.
