10 WWE Wrestlers Who Weren't Given Enough Chances
1. Shane Douglas
Shane Douglas actually had two separate tenures with WWE.
In his first year-long stay in 1990, Douglas largely worked house shows or was used to fill out the numbers for events such as the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series. It was when Shane returned to the company in 1995 that he truly had his legs cut out from under him, though.
Douglas had by that point become one of the most must-watch performers in the industry, largely due to his trashing of the NWA World Title and his subsequent creation of the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. By that point in time, the Franchise persona had been born and Douglas was arguably the best heel in the business.
Upon re-signing with WWE, the Franchise gimmick was completely ignored and Shane Douglas became Dean Douglas - an annoying college teacher.
That WWE spell last three months, with Douglas being one of the many performers of that period to run afoul of The Kliq. Even though Dean Douglas can say he was the Intercontinental Champion, that title reign lasted just 20 minutes and he was merely used as a conduit to get the title from Shawn Michaels to Razor Ramon without HBK losing face and doing the J.O.B.
Thankfully, a return to ECW would once again spark an upturn in Douglas' career, with an eventual return of the Franchise persona and even a reformation of the Triple Threat stable helping out in that regard.
WWE had one of the hottest acts in wrestling on their hands with Shane Douglas back in 1995, yet they completely wasted him.
