101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened
44. Team Canada Are Actually Aliens
This entry is about WCW's Team Canada, not TNA's Team Canada which had nothing to do with WCW's Team Canada. Neither was linked to the WWF's Hart Foundation (either incarnation). Got all of that? Man, wrestling sure has used the 'Canada hates the US' gimmick a fair bit.
Nothing could come close to what almost happened to TC in WCW though.
Lance Storm, Elix Skipper, Major Gunns and even honorary turncoat Jim Duggan comprised a faction that looked set to turn Storm into a real stalwart on the roster. Vince Russo really liked his work, and it seemed like Lance was destined for something special before the entire promotion went right down the drain and was picked clean for a paltry sum.
Allegedly, Russo and Disco Inferno thought it'd be amazing if Team Canada were outed as aliens who'd crash landed on earth and somehow infiltrated pro wrestling via Nitro, Thunder and dying legacy show Saturday Night. This would give WCW WorldWide a whole new meaning! It'd also be a bit 3rd Rock From The Sun.
Think of Storm as a Monday night version of Dick Solomon. Actually, had Lance stared at himself in a mirror and proclaimed: "Oh my God...I'm gorgeous", then he might've saved the entire company. OK, if we could be serious for a minute, it was a terrible idea and it's a good thing nothing came of it.
In fairness, some people tuning into Duggan's matches and promos during his heyday would've been forgiven for thinking he was from outer space anyway. Hoooooooooo!
