101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened
40. Covering Christian’s “Ratty” Face
Multiple ex-WWE writing team members have confirmed this story, and it's a real scorcher.
Court Bauer and Alex Greenfield both revealed during various interviews that then-chief Vince McMahon wanted to superimpose a blue dot over Christian's face whenever the skilled wrestler was on television, because he thought he looked "ratty". That's when staff told him just how expensive it'd be to block out Christian's face during entire matches/segments/entrances.
Amongst other things, Vince told stunned onlookers that Christian's face 'really bothered him' and he was sick of looking at it. Well, that's hardly a glowing appraisal or show of confidence for someone on WWE's roster. 'Hi, Christian. Oh, by the way, Mr. McMahon thinks you're too ugly and wants to cover your face. No, not with a mask. With a blue dot'.
Don't worry, Vince didn't pursue this angle. Who knows what it would've even led to anyway? Was Christian going to come out and complain that someone in the production truck was bullying him? Would he have accepted his fate? Would various babyfaces have called him "ratty" on camera and puked just to make McMahon laugh behind the curtain?
No wonder Cage left for TNA and tried to start again. He had to know he was toast in WWE as soon as he heard this pitch. Worse, it had come from the single most powerful man in the entire organisation. Worse, Vince had reportedly been inspired by a news report on a rape case he'd seen on TV.
Poor Christian. He was almost humiliated.
