For years, John Cena and AJ Styles were the faces of professional wrestling. They may have championed separate promotions but they were symbols of excellence, the tops in the sport. They were synonymous with the industry in which they excelled.

Yet, for as great as they were, their paths never crossed. They stood atop the wrestling mountain but never had the opportunity to battle inside the squared circle.

That changed within the first six months of 2016, thanks to a dream scenario that put them in the same company at the same time.

The May 30 episode of Raw featured the first face-to-face confrontation between the stars and the WWE Universe reacted accordingly, showering them with chants of "this is awesome" and engaging in duelling chants of the star's names.

For the first time in a while, it felt as if WWE had captured lightning in a bottle. The subsequent heel turn by Styles and the dream match that came out of it was icing on the proverbial cake.

Styles could probably earn an entry on this list all his own, his contributions to WWE television immeasurable through six months. Another stellar half-year and Styles can expect to pick up several year-end awards come December.
