11 Most Disappointing WWE PPV Endings
8. SummerSlam 2003 — The Reign Of Terror Continues
SummerSlam 2003 should have been Goldberg’s night.
The former WCW man had already beaten the Rock, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair and Randy Orton during his four-month spell in WWE, with that momentum earning him a spot in SummerSlam’s Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
There, he pretty much picked up from where he’d left off, eliminating Orton within seconds of entering the match, before going on to pin both Jericho and Shawn Michaels to leave himself and Triple H as the final two men.
Rather than steamrollering his way to victory, though, a surprise sledgehammer shot from Triple H had Goldberg laid out, allowing the champ to slither in and pick up a thoroughly undeserved victory.
To add further insult to injury, Goldberg was then cuffed to the chamber wall and bloodied up a little more, making for a striking closing image, but one that was pretty much the exact opposite of what fans had wanted—and expected—to see.
