11 Most Random Money In The Bank Ladder Match Participants In WWE History
2. Ric Flair
The ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair competing on the WrestleMania stage in a match which essentially serves as a World Title Number #1 Contenders match, seems like a perfectly acceptable, if not slightly insulting spot for him.
This would make sense if WrestleMania 22 was 15 years earlier, but Ric Flair competing in 2006 presented some alarming flaws. Going into the ‘Mania 22 ladder match (only the second in the gimmicks iteration) Flair was 57 years old, making him the oldest MITB competitor in history then, and still to this day. As a technical mastermind, with a legacy like no others, Flair didn't compete with ladders too often up to this point in his Mt. Rushmore worthy career. Still, with little else happening on The Road To WrestleMania for Naitch, it was probably either this or the pre-show battle royal for Flair, and the latter option would have been unspeakably offensive.
There is no performer like Flair, and almost in spite of the unfamiliar territory he was in, especially facing ladder match aficionados Shelton Benjamin and Matt Hardy, he was determined to steal the show regardless. That he did, delivering what is still one of MITB’s most famous and memorable bumps, copping a superplex from Matt Hardy atop a ladder to the canvas. If that didn’t deserve a standing ovation from the rabid Chicago crowd, then nothing on the night would.
