During WrestleMania 32, New Day was in the midst of their second run as tag champions, having won the titles at SummerSlam 2015 the previous year.

Using the 'Freebird Rule', the group would defend their titles throughout a transition from heels to babyfaces, breaking Demolition’s 28-year record for a single tag title reign of 478 days. They would lose the titles at Roadblock in December 2016, reaching 483 days and setting a record that would last until their career rivals The Usos broke it with a 622-day reign that ended at 'Mania 39, a full 6 years later.

During their historic run with the tag belts, New Day defeated all comers, including the Dudley Boyz, The Bar, The Club, Enzo Amore & Big Cass, League Of Nations and the Lucha Dragons.

Setting that record, however, took some doing. The group was forced to defend their tag titles on the eve of setting the record twice in 2 Triple Threat tag matches. New Day defeated The Club (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) and The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus), then had to beat Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens and the team of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to leave Raw with their title reign intact.
