Dark clouds may hover over the career of Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka with the ongoing investigation into his role in the death of Nancy Argentino in 1983, but potential murder aside (yikes) Snuka had a wildly impressive career in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.

The Superfly is also credited somewhat with introducing a more high-flying style to American pro wrestling, and is responsible for Mick Foley wanting more than anything to be a pro wrestler.

Snuka was also the first man born outside of the USA to win the United States Championship. The Fijian-born Snuka won the title in 1979 by defeating Ricky Steamboat in a tournament final, after the title was vacated by previous champion Ric Flair.

Snuka would hold the belt for 231 days before dropping it to, yes, Ric Flair.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
