11 Ups & 10 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020
3. Undeniable
This one maybe shouldn't be as high on this article as it is considering the way it ended, however, the sheer nature of Tessa Blanchard's monumental victory of the World Championship over Sami Callihan at the first annual Hard To Kill pay-per-view justifies its high position.
Impact's booking of Tessa Blanchard throughout 2019 and into 2020 has been some of their best of the D'Amore/Callis era. They built her perfectly by having her overcome Gail Kim at Rebellion 2019, and then continuously fail in her subsequent marquee matches - vs. Sami Callihan at Slammiversary, vs. Sami Callihan in a World Championship number one contender match at the Unbreakable special, and in the X Division Championship Ladder Match at Bound For Glory.
That's why the final straw in her Sami Callihan saga had to be her lifting the World Championship from him.
The company had a difficult choice to make by placing their main title on Blanchard when they did, given all the accusations that were thrown her way at the beginning of 2020. By still making her the champion regardless, it allowed Tessa to truly become Impact's top performer at that moment. She was the one was going to lead the company into new ventures. Even in a short(ish) title run, the Blanchard daughter found herself in triumphant outings with Ace Austin and Taya Valkyrie; both were remarkable matches that we often forget about due to the nature of how Tessa's reign came to an end.
We may never see another like Tessa Blanchard in Impact Wrestling, and therefore, her presence in Impact Wrestling's 2020 - for as long as it lasted - can never be forgotten.
