12 Gimmicks WWE Ripped Off From Horror Movies

5. The Undertaker

It's practically impossible to talk about horror-themed wrestlers and those who take inspiration from horror movies and not include the most iconic gimmick of all time, even if there's no one single movie you can point to as the inspiration for the character. The Undertaker doesn't exactly rip-off any one particular horror film. Instead, he's the personification of a film stereotype; the perfect representation of just about any undertaker from the western and horror genres. In westerns, they tended to be a little more shifty, but that's where the horror genre kicks in - and you get an Undertaker that looks like he could rip your arms off and create his own revenue stream by supplying the corpses himself. Combined with manager Paul Bearer, the horror influence is obvious. How the gimmick actually came about was that a few WWF employees at the time felt as if Mark Calaway (then working as Mean Mark Calaway) looked like an "old timey Undertaker" - but rest assured they got that idea from the movies.
