12 Great Wrestling Matches You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

10. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (WWF Backlash 1999)

When people think of The Rock vs. Steve Austin, they tend to point to one of the 3 WrestleMania matches between the duo. At 'Mania XV, X-Seven and XIX, Austin and The Rock tore the house down. The latter even turned out to be Austin's last ever match to date, and it was quite the fitting send off for one of the biggest stars in the industry. Aside from WrestleMania, both men collided on numerous occasions. Even as far back as 1997, Austin and The Rock were jousting over the Intercontinental Title. At the Pay-Per-View immediately following 'Mania XV, the pair contested an absolute stormer. Backlash 1999 was the host event, and the featured bout was a stunning brawl. In fact, at the time, a lot of people felt it was better than the WrestleMania effort. Shane McMahon was the Special Guest Referee for the match, which only helped make things feel bigger. It's a shame that most folks will instantly head for one of the 'Mania battles. Whilst understandable, the Backlash bout has been lost in the shuffle over the years. The overall event was nothing to write home about, but the main event remains one of the best matches Austin and The Rock ever had.
