12 Huge WWE Dream Matches That Were Supposed To Happen But Didn’t
10. Steve Austin Vs Eddie Guerrero (King Of The Ring 2002)
Eddie Guerrero made one of the greatest comebacks of all time when he returned to WWE in 2002 after a year which saw his personal and professional life crumble before his eyes. Latino Heat was fired by the company in 2001 when he received a DUI after going through WWE-sponsored rehab. On top of this, Eddie was also going through a divorce and was declared bankrupt after he received a huge bill from the IRS (apparently his accountant didn't pay Eddie's taxes on time). He worked hard on the independent scene and in Japan and, more importantly, he got sober. Eddie was such a talented performer and WWE never wanted to fire him but felt they needed to in order to send a message to the rest of the locker room. A leaner, meaner Eddie returned to WWE on the post-Wrestlemania X8 Raw and quickly captured the Intercontinental title in an entertaining feud with Rob Van Dam. Top star Steve Austin took notice of Guerrero's excellent performances and decided he wanted to work a programme with him. The two tape several angles for TV and squared off in house show main events. A match between the two was set for the King Of The Ring. But the match never happened because Austin walked out of the WWE after he was asked to job to newcomer Brock Lesnar, clean, and without buildup. Eddie faced Ric Flair at the pay-per-view instead and Austin wouldn't return to the company until February 2003. An Eddie Guerrero versus Steve Austin match would have been something else in 2002 but, sadly, we never got to see it (the only match the two had against each other was a throwaway squash match on Smackdown in 2000).
