12 MORE Weird Periods WWE Icons Would Like You To Forget
1. Jamaican Kofi Kingston
WWE's uneven (at best) booking of black talent is a conversation point that justifiably rages on to this day.
Kofi Kingston's in-ring ability and likability have been undeniable since he first arrived in the company. This superstar has been instrumental in the success of The New Day, and the KofiMania movement that led to his coronation as WWE World Champion for the first time at WrestleMania 35 is one of the few genuine "WrestleMania moments" of the 2010s. This was all fuelled by fans' love for this generational talent, who was long overdue for his moment in the sun.
It speaks volumes about the state of Vince McMahon's WWE that an American wrestler with roots in Ghana in West Africa was asked to be a reggae guy from Jamaica, simply because of the colour of his skin and having dreadlocks. The most ignorant of stereotypes was placed upon Kingston, and he still managed to shine due to his natural excellence.
With this stupidity from WWE creative thankfully so far back in the rearview that it's virtually unnoticeable, it was amusing to see Kofi joking about it when Twitter was congratulating Jade Cargill for being the first Jamaican-born superstar to be crowned WWE World Champion.
