12 MORE Weird Periods WWE Icons Would Like You To Forget

6. Cody Rhodes As Stardust

Spirit Squad
WWE

Cody Rhodes commitment to Stardust was something to behold. No matter how ridiculous this character was, from his face paint to his attire, to his speech and his ridiculous mannerisms, nobody can ever accuse Cody of not giving his all to what was asked of him during this era.

Coming across like a mixture of Batman villain The Riddler and a clear ode to his brother Dustin's Goldust character, Stardust didn't really work as a face or a heel. His gurning, giggling, and biting the air was as avant-garde and weird as intended, it just didn't ever land with fans. He won championships and was given a decent amount of TV time, but whether or not fans were too weirded out by the character, nothing seemed to stick for Rhodes in this era.

This character's nonsense now looks even worse. As Cody went on to become one of the biggest independent wrestling acts of all time, simply by being himself, followed by being a founding member of AEW, and now proving himself worthy of being one of the cornerstones of WWE, Stardust has well and truly been put out to pasture.
