9. Kane Was Kevin Nash's Way Of Being In The WWF And WCW
The big legend in the immediacy of Kane's debut was that it was just Kevin Nash in disguise. Young kids gossiped that it was Nash's way of being in the WWF and WCW at the same time. This playground rumour caught fire to the point that it got a bit of wider buzz, but obviously the smarter fan always knew it to be an impossibility. Why People Believe It: There were physical similarities between Kane and Nash. Fans of the era often liked to speculate on WWF / WCW crossovers, and gossip mongers claimed that Kane was all a big setup for Nash's WWF return. Should We Believe It: No. Contractually, it was legally impossible for WCW's Nash to appear in the WWF. Physically it was also impossible, as Nash was live on Nitro at the exact same time as Kane was on Raw. That could have still allowed for Nash to jump ship and eventually unmask as Kane, but there's no indication that was ever the plan. McMahon did want Nash back and the big guy did want to go back at points, but in late 97 he was probably still content in WCW. The Kane / Nash link was just playground gossip.
