8. The Undertaker Wanted To Lose His WrestleMania Streak To Kane
This classic rumour has been hinted at and mentioned in various legitimate forums, including the UK's Power Slam magazine. The story goes that when The Undertaker came back in 2004, he wanted to put Kane over at WrestleMania. Out of respect, Kane refused. The idea would have been that it would have made Kane a legitimate top level heel and prepared him for a series of title matches against Chris Benoit. The legend also has another form. It has been said that it was actually WrestleMania 14 when The Undertaker pitched losing to Kane. This was the Big Red Machine's first Mania, and it was a chance for the WWF to really put the new star over. However, in the end, it was Taker who was booked to win. Why People Believe It: The Undertaker is a big fan of Kane and there is a great deal of mutual respect. As for Kane, he's famously a humble guy backstage, it wouldn't be surprising if he passed up such a win. Should We Believe It: Possibly. It is certainly more plausible than some of the other urban legends on this list. However, at both Mania 14 and 20, the clear narrative was for a heroic victory. Kane was the evil heel and it made sense for The Undertaker to take vengeance.
