12 Things You Need To Know About Sting's WWE Deal And Future
12. The Deal Has Been Done For A Long Time
Sting only debuted on Sunday night, but the deal with WWE has been done for some time. Informally it was pretty much agreed by the Spring. By the time of late July, Sting was telling the Daily Mirror that he was a WWE guy. So it looks like the contract was signed, sealed and delivered early in the Summer. It was pretty much a given that the deal would always get done. He left TNA in January and right away the WWE rumours were circulating. There's no smoke without fire and both sides were probably negotiating as early as February. A big part of Sting walking away from TNA was because he knew the WWE gig was a now or never opportunity. As for WWE, they wanted him badly. In a period of austerity and roster cuts, Vince McMahon has splashed the cash to bring a part timer in. So if the deal was loosely agreed as early as March and definitely agreed by July, how come WWE waited so long to debut Sting? The simple answer is that his deal revolves around WreslteMania 31. The beginning of Mania's narrative always starts at Survivor Series. Think of SummerSlam as the end of WWE's season and Survivor Series as the start of the next series of narratives. Sting's time is now.
