12 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: TNA (Parts 1 & 2)
2. Dixie Carter Takes A Bashing
Look away, Dixie Carter fans.
VICE made sure to mention that Dixie didn’t reply to any interview requests before ‘Dark Side’ was filmed. That, being perfectly blunt, might be why everyone on the doc was seemingly given a green light to go all in on the Dixie bashing like this was 'The Self Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior' - Jim Cornette called her “a money mark”, for example.
Jeff Jarrett, Scott D’Amore and select others were kinder, but the general outlook on Dixie is that she didn’t know The Undertaker from Jimmy Wang Yang about pro wrestling. Jeff defended her involvement saying he had a choice when HealthSouth pulled out: “Do I want to stay alive, or do I want 100% of nothing?”. However, he also recalled having a call about TNA’s video game. The folks in charge of that said Jarrett didn’t need to be on the next one, because Dixie said she’d handle it.
Jeff knew then that Carter was making a play for more power and platform.
Mid-flow, D’Amore said that Dixie told him to stop calling Jeff boss, and Karen said that Dixie “nuked [Jeff’s] entire life”. Jeff even went so far as to refer to Carter as “evil” for freezing him out of a company he started. Things escalated quickly once the segment on Dixie started, put it that way.
There's no balance to speak of, but that's more down to Carter refusing to take part in the documentary than anything else. Generally, VICE try to strike some middle ground in their documentaries, but that wasn't the case in these opening TNA episodes.
