12 Upcoming Wrestling Stories That Are Already Doomed

3. Chase U 2.0

The original Chase University idea was one of the wackier ones from a period of NXT where such things were normalised, and like a lot of things that go to the trouble of simply sticking around in wrestling, it started to get over.

Andre Chase and Duke Hudson made genuinely pleasing Tag Team Champions, while Thea Hail found herself as the beloved nearly-woman of the women's division and played her part in an oddly charming - if completely illogical - subplot alongside Jacy Jayne. Much was illogical about an American University named after its leader operating within an existing wrestling "Performance Center" though, and it spoke to the eventual strength of feeling that so much of it was waved away.

Indeed, parting brought sweet sorrow when Ridge Holland dismantled the stable, and the sense that a mistake had been made resulted in a reboot to give Chase something to do and brand new members Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors something to sink their teeth into. If only Shawn Michaels and his team agreed. A lack of clarity on what exactly the new recruits are supposed to be learning, or indeed if learning is part of the syllabus is enough of an issue to stop them getting booked to wrestle. And when they do, they lose, fundamentally undermining the wider purpose of the...uh, academic institution.

You see? It's too silly without some credibility, and there looks almost none forthcoming any time soon.
