12 WWE PPVs With Two Great World Title Matches
1. Royal Rumble 2017 (Kevin Owens Vs. Roman Reigns; AJ Styles Vs. John Cena)
And finally, this is what we consider the last PPV to date that featured two great World Championship matches.
Royal Rumble 2017 saw Kevin Owens defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns while John Cena challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Championship.
In a fantastic match that even saw Chris Jericho suspended above the ring in a shark cage, Owens and Reigns almost killed themselves in a brutal No Holds Barred match for the Universal Championship. Owens would ultimately retain the gold thanks to Braun Strowman, only to be squashed by Goldberg at the next PPV.
Just minutes later, AJ Styles put his WWE Championship on the line against John Cena in what was another great match between the two. The pair delivered yet another classic match, which ended with Cena connecting with multiple AA's to pin AJ and win his sixteenth WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Even though Cena's reign would end a few weeks later (just like Owens'), at least we had these two terrific title matches at Royal Rumble.
