In 2008, WWE had WrestleMania 24 featuring matches such as Shawn Michaels versus Ric Flair, and Floyd Mayweather versus Big Show. It was a good example of the company satisfying both wrestling purists while at the same time appealing to a mainstream audience.

In terms of star power, John Cena and Batista had firmly bedded in as the headliners of the era, and there was a solid supporting cast with the likes of Randy Orton and Edge. There was also a new generation emerging, notably CM Punk, standing side by side with the legendary acts such as The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H.

It was a solid period, and the financials reflected that, with record revenue. However, profits were down on the previous year.
