14 Wrestling Gimmicks Blatantly Stolen From Hollywood

7. The Dudleyz - Slapshot

Despite not being a terribly high-concept gimmick, the idea of the large Dudley family actually has its roots in the classic 1977 Paul Newman comedy Slap Shot. Raven and Dean Malenko saw the movie one night in the mid-90s and passed the idea along, eventually resulting in the iconic tag team and stable they are today.

The film features a trio of brothers called the Hansons, who look identical, down to their thick black glasses, and have a penchant for aggressive stupidity. It's pretty clear to see where the inspiration for the Dudleyz fits in here, especially for Spike, even if the family did ultimately become its own wonderfully weird beast.
