15 Awesome WWE Sagas To Binge-Watch On Netflix Over Christmas
7. D-Generation X From Start To Finish
B...b...b...break it down!
Don't let WWE's revisionist history fool you: Triple H was not over with the fanbase until he started buddying up with Shawn Michaels as D-Generation X. Pore over pay-per-views from 1997 and you'll see that Hunter was still struggling as a solo act even once Chyna debuted and even when he was having spirited brawls vs. Mick Foley. DX changed the course of his career for good.
The group came together on TV during the second half of '97, and you can see the rumblings of that on the 11 August Raw. The 13 October episode of the fed's flagship is also telling if you're a completionist. It's awesome to have those TV shows to help frame some of the PPVs from that era - by late-1997, DX had their own In Your House show named after them, for example.
Via PPV and select TV episodes, you can look back on how things changed once Shawn Michaels stepped away in 1998. Seeing Chyna come into her own as a standalone star, watching the New Age Outlaws become one of the most over acts in the biz, and seeing X-Pac jump over from WCW to the WWF is all gripping. Similarly, Mike Tyson's involvement in HBK's bout with Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIV is essential.
D-Generation X morphed into the McMahon-Helmsley Regime in 2000, but the group returned in various forms over the next decade or so. By then, it was chiefly a tag team outlet for Trips and Shawn. Maybe miss out the woeful tag match at Crown Jewel 2018 if you're a Michaels super fan and don't want to see him looking all embarrassed though.
Top Recommendation: Shawn vs. Austin at 'Mania XIV is historic, but Michaels and Triple H bumping around with John Cena at Survivor Series 2009 is also a fine way to spend 20 minutes.
