15 WWE Break-Ups That IMMEDIATELY Backfired
2. The Hurt Business Close Shop (2021)
The Hurt Business became one of the best aspects of WWE's closed door "ThunderDome" programming from late-2020 into 2021. MVP and Bobby Lashley recruited both Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander as new members in July and September respectively, and business looked good. Alexander, in particular, got over for the first time in his WWE career by appearing as a sharp-suited but still vicious contender with bad intentions for everybody around him.
Suddenly, MVP and Lashley ruled that Cedric and Shelton weren’t pulling their weight on the 29 March 2021 episode of Raw. Bobby attacked both guys and dumped them out of the group like they were nothing. It became clear immediately that both Benjamin and Alexander were rudderless without THB, and it was obvious that the group still had a lot of juice so the split irked fans who'd invested.
Perhaps realising the error of their ways, WWE put the band back together on the 27 September 2021 flagship, but split them again on 10 January 2022. Yuck. Just yuck. This constant yo-yoing of fan interest was stupid. So, mind you, was the thought that Shelton and Cedric were angry with each other for getting unceremoniously dumped out of the group.
The timing couldn't have been worse: Lashley had just won the WWE Title on 1 March, so he should've been surrounding himself with heavies. Surely that would've been something MVP tried to do on his man's behalf? Instead, the manager exposed his own client during a period when he had a big ol' target on his back.
Make it make sense x2.
