15 WWE Pushes That IMMEDIATELY Backfired

14. Liv Morgan (2022)

Today, Liv Morgan is rightly considered one of the best female stars on WWE's books, but it's been some journey for the one-time jobber turned World Champion. Back in 2022, the creative team finally seemed ready to elevate Liv up the ladder. Literally. She won Money In The Bank, then cashed the briefcase in that same night to take the SmackDown Women’s Title from ex-MMA brawler Ronda Rousey.

So far, so good, but things fell apart after that crowd-popping moment. WWE’s follow up booking for the pair's one-on-one showdown at SummerSlam was awful - Liv tapped out during the pin, yet escaped with the belt by the skin of her teeth. Then, her wishy washy promo explanation on TV was greeted by boos, and that started a painful roll towards dropping the belt back to Rousey at October’s Extreme Rules.

Morgan's popular MITB win and cash in had been hot, but then WWE’s characterisation spoiled everything. She started to come across as somebody who was both lucky to be in the position she was in and a little bitch who basked in that idea. It was too arrogant to fly in the babyface role, and it wasn't really doing much to make Liv look on par with someone such as Ronda either.

Who thought any of this was going to turn her into a beloved baby?!

WWE should've had a license to print money when they heard fans roaring with approval for Liv at Money In The Bank. Instead, due mainly to their own silliness, the promotion had to sit and watch Morgan get booed then play before smaller and smaller reactions until losing the title. Great work, everyone. 11/10 for that first chapter. 3/10 for the rest.
