2 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 15)

1. Ain’t He Great?

Jeff Jarrett

What a disappointment this was.

Listen, yours truly is a mark for classic Jeff Jarrett (his match vs. Shawn Michaels from In Your House 2 is essential), but drafting him in as the special guest ref for SummerSlam is puzzling. Where to start with this booking?! It just doesn't make any logical sense.

Ol' J-E-DOUBLE-F isn't known for laying down the law generally, and he hasn't been involved in the story at all up until this point. The legend also has zero links to The Usos or Street Profits, so he has no business being out there in stripes on 30 July.

Adam Pearce acted like he had some hot scoop to unveil before a tame video package aired for Jarrett. The live crowd were understandably miffed as to why Jeff was handpicked, and then The Usos continued brawling with The Street Profits.

How random.
