20 Best Matches Of Brock Lesnar's Career
3. Vs. Kurt Angle - SmackDown 2003
In 2003 the best storyline of the year was the rivalry between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar over the WWE Championship. After their stellar main event match at WrestleMania XIX, followed by another instant classic at SummerSlam, it seemed only fitting that the legendary rivalry between the accomplished amateur wrestlers should end in an 60-minute Ironman match.
Taking place on free television, both men once again brought out the best in each other, with nine falls taking place during the 60 minutes. Lesnar smartly took an early disqualification loss in order to capitalize and score falls via pinfall, submission, and count-out to take a 3-1 lead in the first 20 minutes. Lesnar would continue to dominate, leaning on his newly acquired heel tactics, including hitting Angle with the WWE Championship behind the referees back to go up 5-2 in the final ten minutes.
The Olympic Gold Medalist would draw close, with a top rope superplex and Ankle Lock good for two falls. Now trailing by only one, Angle attempted every submission move he could lock in, trying for one fall to tie it up. This absolute war would come to an end with Lesnar surviving one final Ankle Lock as time expired to win his third WWE Championship.
Despite the hour long time, the fact that it is on SmackDown, means the condensed version on the WWE Network is more than worthy of a watch through.
