18. RoboCop Saves The Day At WCW Capital Combat

The history between Sting and Ric Flair's Four Horsemen stable is nearly as vast and varied as the history of WCW itself. Sometimes allies (Sting was even a member at one point), but usually enemies, it seemed as though the two entities were inextricably linked. Like I said, they had a history - and like any history, it had its weird moments.

The one and only Capital Combat pay-per-view event, held in May 1990, was subtitled The Return of Robocop. It was conceived as a tie-in to the highly-anticipated release of Robocop 2, and promotional materials featuring the enhanced police officer had bombarded wrestling fans for months. When the show finally came along, it was clear that RoboCop (who, by the way, is not real) would be making his presence felt.

Midway through the show, Sting €“ not booked to wrestle but there to enjoy the show, I guess €“ came down to the ring in his finest tank top and Zubaz to address the fans in attendance. However, no sooner had The Stinger come out than Horsemen Sid Vicious, Arn Anderson, and Ole Anderson assaulted him, locking him in a shark cage at ringside that was used earlier in the night.

Who could save Sting? Who? Yup! RoboCop made his way out from the back (very, very slowly) and approached the cage as the Horsemen cackled. However, their laughter turned to pure shock as the cyborg easily pulled the door off of the cage, freeing Sting. The terrified Horsemen backed away as the elated fans cheered. RoboCop had saved the day.
