20 WWE Retirements That Meant Absolutely Nothing

2. John Cena (2010)

Everything about the Nexus vs. John Cena storyline after Summerslam 2010 was so poorly done, with ridiculous twists like €œJohn Cena is now a member of the Nexus!€ But none was more ridiculous than Cena being €œfired€ by Wade Barrett after he refused to help Barrett win the WWE Championship at Survivor Series. Over the next few weeks on Raw, if Cena was really fired, you€™d never know it, as he showed up every week. Even CM Punk, who had a small stint on commentary, remarked on how ridiculous it was that Cena, who was technically fired, was allowed into the building and into the ring every week. This storyline was so bad that when Vince McMahon threatened to fire Cena if he didn€™t beat CM Punk at Money in the Bank, Punk called out the fact that Vince would never fire Cena. They€™ve never threatened to fire Cena since.
