No one was completely positive how the rules of the Brand Extension worked coming out of the 2016 WWE Draft and how Superstars would able to switch shows if possible. There were several stars fans would have loved to see on SmackDown such as Sami Zayn and Cesaro, but instead, it was Jack Swagger's Raw contract that expired.

He resurfaced on SmackDown Live the very next night, announcing himself as the newest member of the blue brand after clearing Baron Corbin from the ring. The two had a decent little feud, but Swagger was never able to beat Corbin cleanly. After Corbin made quick work of him on an episode of SmackDown in mid-October, The Real American disappeared from TV all together and hasn't been seen since.

Moving Swagger to the blue brand could have been the rebirth he needed to make him a serious threat to the midcard again, but once next to nothing changed about his attitude or his character, he was doomed to remain a fixture in the undercard. Swagger is one of the most technically proficient wrestlers WWE has on its roster, but a string of start-and-stop pushes have caused fans to give on him and his chances of ever returning to relevance.
