4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Jan 3)
1. It Was Fun While It Lasted
The main event of the show, as promised, saw The Miz defend his Intercontinental Title against Dean Ambrose. After weeks of indignities, Ambrose was itching to get his hands on Miz, so he beat him all around the ringside area in the early goings. Miz eventually got the heat, though, when Maryse caused a distraction in her husband's favor.
Eventually, Ambrose fought back, making for a really exciting match. Maryse slapped Ambrose when he left the ring, and the referee wanted to call for the disqualification, but Ambrose convinced him not to. Instead, Maryse was sent to the back, which seemed to even the odds - until Miz nailed Ambrose with the championship belt. Ambrose managed to kick out, then hit Dirty Deeds for the win.
It was a strong main event that made the Intercontinental Title feel important, but it's hard not to get a little upset about The Miz losing his championship. With some luck, he'll get another shot at the Royal Rumble and make good on it - or just become WWE Champion.
