4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 23)

2. A Rivalry Between Cesaro And Kevin Owens Is Compelling

There are some weeks when Smackdown there's not a whole lot that happens in terms of storyline advancement. Not this week. I really liked seeing the Cesaro/Owens story built up with an important backstage segment.

After Owens lost his match to Rusev by countout, he bumped into Cesaro, who was doing a promo about how much he loved the wrestling business. Cesaro insulted Owens by calling him fat and saying he liked to be counted out so he can get back to catering quicker. Owens bragged about beating Cena once as a way to say that he's done more than Cesaro, who has been in WWE for longer.

Cesaro ended their little faceoff by saying "Walk Owens Walk" in reference to Owens walking out of matches. The crowd let out a big "oooohhhh" reaction to it that felt legit rather than the usual piped in noise on Smackdown.

At the end of the night, after Cesaro lost his match to Rollins, Owens walked out and gave him a Popup Powerbomb to send a message to him.

They're likely going to have a match at SummerSlam. That makes me happy because they will definitely have one of the biggest matches at that show if they are given the chance to do so.
