5 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Extreme Rules 2019
3. The Lack Of Extreme Stipulations
While Extreme Rules thrived on the quality of the matches that it produced, many couldn't help but feel that it wasn't all that extreme - and, to be quite honest, it's easy to see why.
It's true that the event attempted to push a few more boundaries than previous offerings (Corbin's attack on Lynch and his bad language afterwards mirrored the more cutting-edge approach WWE TV is attempting to take), but when it came to actually being extreme, it was doomed to fail before it even began - the reason being that there were only three matches on the card that contained stipulations that would be deemed 'extreme'.
The Last Man Standing and the respective No Holds Barred and Extreme Rules tag team matches were the only contests injected with the spice of the event's name and, as a result, they were the only ones that could really deliver in that department (even though not all of them did).
While you could argue that Triple Threat matches have no disqualifications and Handicap matches aren't all that normal either, none of them are traditionally extreme gimmick matches, which, considering that they took place at what was supposed to be a traditionally extreme pay-per-view, just feels like a missed opportunity.
Where are the cage matches, object-on-a-pole and Falls Count Anywhere matches, damn it?! Those stipulations could have enhanced the overall presentation of the show and perhaps even improved some of the evening's less impressive outings.
