5 Things About WCW/ECW Invasion That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)

1. Where Were The Real Stars?

When fans were fantasy booking the WWF versus WCW in the 90s and early 2000s they were picturing the likes of Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Triple H going toe-to-toe with Sting, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Scott Steiner and Goldberg. When fans realised that WWF vs WCW was a reality, the understandably got a little carried away with themselves. This was a feud that had been years in the making and they would finally get to see those interpromotional dream matches that they had seen happen only in their minds. The excitement didn't last long. Fans soon realised that the biggest WCW stars they were going to see were Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page. These weren't bad wrestlers and they were stars in their own right but they weren't Goldberg and Hogan. The ECW roster was so thin that the only real 'star' that the WWF could acquire was Rob Van Dam. So where were the WCW heavy-hitters? They were collecting on guaranteed contracts that they had with Time Warner. Most of the headliners essentially got six or seven figures to sit at home while Lance Storm, Hugh Morrus, Billy Kidman and the like tried their best. We did get Flair, Goldberg, Hogan, Nash and Sting in the WWF after the Invasion but by that time it was too little too late.
