5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (29 Aug - Results & Review)
1. Rinse And Repeat With Tiffy Time
Good lord, Tiffany Stratton's title reign has become a struggle.
This week, Jade Cargill interrupted Tiffany fixing her hair (thrilling) in a brief backstage altercation to tell the champ that she’s number one contender and is coming for the belt. So, we’re all in agreement that WWE have run out of fresh ideas for Stratton's title reign, right? The braintrust don’t seem to have much of a game plan for her whatsoever.
SummerSlam's win over Jade should’ve been a wrap on that unless one of them was going heel or something. Rebooking the match and lining up a second one after involving some unwanted Nia Jax stuff is just milquetoast and dull. Tiffany has gone from being one of the most talked-about and urgent characters on WWE television to somebody who drones her way through nothing dialogue in backstage skits then moves along.
This isn't enough. It isn't enough close.
The harsh truth is that Tiffy's biggest weakness is her work on the mic as a babyface. She rarely comes across as likeable, and at times barely acknowledges what her rivals have said before returning to the script regardless. It's robotic. In-ring, she's fantastic. That's where Stratton shines, but she needs better stories than the one with Jade.
It isn't helping either woman, quite frankly. There needs to be a serious sit down between Triple H and his writers to thrash out where they're going wrong with Tiffany. They're failing her badly.
