5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (April 5 - Results & Review)
WWE put a bow on WrestleMania build during a by-the-numbers episode of SmackDown.
This 'go home' episode of SmackDown could've been better, but maybe it was always going to be functional. After all, WWE went hard with killer segments aplenty during a colossal push towards twin main events like Saturday's tag-team main event and the Roman vs. Cody blowoff before reaching Friday.
Perhaps there was just nothing left to do pre-'Mania, and that's fine.
In fairness, the company did sign off with a strong babyface promo, but some of the other stuff on the undercard was a little tepid. Things haven't clicked at all in the United States Title picture, and even red hot newbie Jade Cargill toiled in a totally unnecessary bit of business that really shouldn't have been booked.
Elsewhere, Triple H tweaked a tag match for Saturday night (at least one guy will be disappointed with that decision), the winner of the latest Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal was revealed, and there was a quite remarkable lack of chemistry in what should've been an ace main event.
Think of SmackDown as a 50/50 kind of episode. WrestleMania 40 will surely be superb across two nights in Philadelphia, but a few fans will be bummed out that major players like Rock and Reigns weren't on tap yet again.
Here's all the good and bad.
