5 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Mar 14)

4. Carmella Joins The Hunt

There wasn't much creativity in the way SmackDown's women were booked this week, but they had a solid show regardless. It started with the first match of the night, Becky Lynch vs. Natalya, which held the crowd's attention throughout, and accomplished its goal of giving Becky a credible victory over one of her WrestleMania opponents.

Carmella jumped both women after the bell, and later confirmed that she intends to enter the SmackDown Women's Title match at WrestleMania. This brings the match's list of participants up to five, and while there was nothing original about the way WWE inserted Carmella into the fray, it got the job done. She won't exactly be a favourite, but if SmackDown are going to utilise every available woman in Orlando, Carmella can't not be involved.

Becky will walk into the match with a great chance of winning, so it was important to give her a strong victory. Natalya, meanwhile, has settled into a midcard gatekeeper role since joining the blue brand, and that doesn't look like changing anytime soon. She's a strong competitor who's capable of having a good match with almost anybody, but lacks the star-power to lead the division like a Becky Lynch or Alexa Bliss, and it'd be a big surprise if she won on April 2nd. Still, the build to the match has been well done thus far, and it should be a fun, chaotic affair.
